Design is a main element in this subject - the ability to identify a design need, the drawing up of an appropriate design, implementation of that design, and subsequent evaluation of the 'finished product'. The design does not have to be an object - it could equally be a system (e.g. a rota) or an environment (e.g. a library, a stage setting, or an infant - home corner as a shop or a clinic).
We treat this subject mainly, though not exclusively, in a cross-curricular way, because design elements are always present in some aspect of our topics.
Through enrichment activities Mrs Lidster teaches DT across school linking with topic teaching but also focussing on key DT skills.
For more information on how we teach DT in school, please see your child's class teacher or subject coordinator.
