Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Who's who?

Miss Holt - Year 2 Class Teacher

Spring Term 2

This term we have changed our classroom into 'Harthill Wildlife Park'. We have incorporated our vets area into this and have had some wild animals check in.

This term we are reading and basing our learning around the story 'How to Hide a Lion' by Helen Stephens. We have written a newspaper based on missing animals and have used the story as inspiration for our classroom.

Within Topic we have been looking closely at the similarities and differences between animals and their habitats, we have also looked at the location of these on the world map.

In maths we are working hard to become SATs ready! We are ensuring we can answer a mixture of questions quickly and accurately through checking our answers and our method of working. We have been counting in multiples and ensuring we can recall our multiplication and division facts for multiples of 2,3,5 and 10.

Spring Term 1

'Welcome to Harthill Vets!'

In our classroom we have a vets! We have lots of different animals to take care of and are keeping accurate records of all our animals.

In English we are reading 'Diary of a Killer Cat' by Anne Fine. We will be finding out about the antics of Tuffy the cat and following the naughty cats journey through the book.

Autumn Term 2

This term we our core text is 'The Dark' by Lemony Snicket. The story is simple but the writer uses a style of text matched with great illustrations which create suspense and intrigue.

We have linked our guided reading to the theme of 'the dark' using the text 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of The Dark'. We are focussing on answering questions accurately and 'finding the evidence' which backs up our answer. As a class we have taken our learning in the direction of owls and local wildlife which we have been finding out about in science.

Autumn Term 1

This term we are following a pirate theme related to our key text ‘How to Find Gold’ by Viviane Schwarz. The children have brought in some fantastic bits to add to the classroom and are thoroughly enjoying the topic so far.
