We hope that you are all well.

Hi Y6,

We hope that you're all well and had a lovely weekend.

Yesterday marked 72 years since the birth of the NHS and people all over the country joined in the final national clap. This week's reading comprehension focuses on the NHS and its importance for the UK.

Hi Y6,

We hope that you're all well.

If you have onion sets you might have noticed that the bulbs are swelling nicely - just wait a few more weeks until the green sprouts start turning yellow and they'll be ready to pull.

Gulliver's Valley opens on Saturday 11th July, with bookings being taken in 'slots'. Remember - some of you designed a mascot and meal ideas... I wonder if any of these will feature at the park?

Don't forget to send in a photo or a piece of learning each week. Please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying. Remember, we are here for all of you.

Hi Y6,

We hope that you're all well and have enjoyed a bit of the cooler weather this weekend. It feels strange saying this but it's only three weeks left until the Summer Holidays.

Your parents/carers had a text last week asking for any school books that you have at home to be returned to school. We have left a box for them to be placed in outside of the front entrance to school. Hi Y6,

We hope that you're all well. Remember to make sure that you take care in the sun as it is really hot today :-) It's Harper's 3rd Birthday today so I am really excited and looking forward to celebrating with her after school.

We'd like to say a special well done to a few pupils: Hannah, Emily, Sophia, Cici, Archie, Alice, Jess T and Gabriel who have been busy completing their two lessons on Bedrock this week. Keep it up! Yesterday, we received Gabriel's writing and was blown away by his use of vocabulary in the story from last week's writing task. He did a fantastic job with editing too. Please email in your writing; we love reading it.

Hi Y6,

We hope that you're all well and that you've all had a good weekend. The weather is going to be beautiful this week; make sure that you take care in the sun as it will be really hot!

Last week, I spoke to many parents regarding home learning. I have noticed that, unfortunately, few SPaG tasks are being completed. It is really important that you complete the work that we set each week as this is what your classmates who are in school are completing too. I know that you have had two transition books from Wales High School and will be anxious to complete these. It would be a good idea, however, to save the majority of the tasks in these for the Summer Holidays and focus on the learning that is set by myself and Mrs Thompson for the next four weeks. Programmes like Bedrock, SPaG.com, Time Tables Rockstars and Spelling Beats will be unavailable at High School so it is much more beneficial to take advantage of using these while you still can.

Don't forget to send in a photo or a piece of learning each week. Please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying. Remember, we are here for all of you.

Hi Y6,

I hope you've had a lovely weekend and that some of you had the opportunity to see/enjoyed spending time with loved ones from one other household, face-to-face, for the first time in almost three months.

I'm saying hello from school today (along with 12 of your classmates, Mrs Booth and Mac)! As you know, some Y6s are back learning in school whilst the majority of Y6s are still at home. You are all completing the same learning (the learning that is uploaded to our class page each week) and I will still respond to emails as well as check in via phone calls. I am here for all of you.

Good morning Y6,

I hope that you and your family are well.

It's great to see that nearly all of our class have been active on Bedrock this week. Remember, it is two lessons a week that you need to complete. This is in addition to any pre or post test that you may do. Well done to those children, in particular, who I have spoken to recently about this and have subsequently taken an active role in ensuring that they improve their home learning. Only three more children need to log on!

I have received just a few photos and videos for my Y6 project - don't forget to send them in by the end of this week!

Don't forget to send in a photo or a piece of learning each week. Please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Good morning Y6,

I hope that you and your family are well.

I have received a few of your stories now from the writing challenges that I have been setting and I have been impressed with a few things: vocabulary use, parenthesis and accurate speech. Try to send yours in by email each Friday. It would be great to read everyone's writing again. I can also give you editing tips based on SPaG once I read your narrative :-). As SPaG lessons are not taught in High School, it would be great for you to utilise this time with me in order to improve your skills.

Hi Y6,

Mrs. Perkins has shared how fantastic many of you are doing with your vocabulary learning on Bedrock Vocabulary so far this week. Well done Y6!

Remember the 'Fitness & Well-being' challenge this week is: Household Chores. How many of you have changed your own bedding this week? Can you continue to do so?

I can't believe how dry it has been for most of our time in lockdown - I'm thankful for the rain in my garden and allotment. I cycle down to where we did our Orienteering course most days and can't believe how dry and cracked the soil is now... remember many of us lost our wellies in that mud it was so wet from the floods!!! Look at it now:

Hi Y6,

As I have been checking in on home learning, I would like to give a few shout outs today.

Well done to half of the class who have got stuck in with their vocabulary learning on Bedrock Vocabulary so far this week: Jack B, Miley, Lucy, Connor, Harry, George M, Morgan, Joe, Jess M, Sophie, George P, Archie, Hamish, Alice and Jess T.

A special well done to Sophia and Sophie who I can see have completed their SPaG learning.

Keep up the good work Y6; remember, completing the learning set each week will keep your brain active and subsequently set you in good stead for your journey going forward in high school and in life.

Don't forget to send in a photo or a piece of learning each week. Please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Hi Y6,

It's nice to see that many of you have already been active on Bedrock and SPaG.com this week.

Please can you make sure that you are completing the Maths and English activities as well as some from the wider curriculum activities that are set by myself and Mrs Thompson each week. In addition to this, you should be completing two lessons on Bedrock, the SPaG activity on SPaG.com and logging into Spelling Beats, Times Tables Rockstars and Bug Club twice every week too. There are still several members in the class who I can see have not logged into any of these and who have yet to send us any learning in via the class email. Please can you all choose one thing from this week's learning, that you have completed, and email it in to the class email by the end of the week.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Good morning Y6,

How are you all? I'm really missing being in school and teaching you.

Yesterday, we received two transition documents from Wales High School: a Y6 Family Bulletin and a Transition Workbook. Your parents/carers should have also received an electronic copy of these documents via email. I have now created a folder above this message called 'Transition to Wales High School'; you will find both documents in here. If, however, you require a hard copy of the Transition Workbook, and do not have access to a printer at home, please email in and we will print and post one.

I have also received my monthly report from Bedrock Vocabulary for May; both Jess Moore and Harry completed the most lessons in school. Well done to you two! In addition to this, Jada made the most progress in school with 324%! Well done :-) Keep up the good work, Y6!

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Good morning Y6,

What wonderful weather we had last week! We hope that you and your families are well and hope that you all put your sun cream on over the May half term  :-)

Even though we are still not back in school, today is the first day of your last half term in primary school. Hopefully, you are managing to engage with, and complete, the activities that are set in the weekly tasks folder as these will prove beneficial for your transition up to Wales High School. This half term, the World Studies activities have a Geography focus.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Hi Y6,

This is the last message before a one-week break!

We hope that you and your families are well and hope that you all stay safe over the May half term. Hopefully the weather will stay great over the next week so that you can get as much fresh air as possible.

As both Mrs Thompson and I will be taking our half term break, no additional online learning will be added next week. However, if you do want to keep active with your learning over the half term, you can always log on to Bedrock, Bug Club, Spelling Beats, SPaG.com and Times Tables Rockstars and, of course, continue reading each day.

If you have anything that you'd like to share with us over the break, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to hearing about your half term.

Hello Y6,

I hope you're all well. I've seen some excellent efforts with your home-learning. Great job Y6!

For those of you whom have onion sets: I keep watering my onion plants at the allotment and they still need another few weeks before the plants begin to turn yellow, so stay patient ;-)

On Sky News this week a fantastic UK primary teacher nick-named 'MC Grammar' caught my attention as he has created grammar tutorials to rap - really worth a look if you get chance: https://www.theteachertrain.com/mc-grammar

Morning Y6,

I hope that you and your family are well.

How are you getting on with Goodnight Mister Tom? I'm re-reading it alongside another book at the moment as I'm training my brain to have two books on the go at the same time. I think you may remember me talking to you in class about this and how I've struggled before to do it but how many of you have the ability to. You're never too old to learn a new skill!

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

I'd like to give a shout out to Hannah, George M and Sophia today who, I can see, have been busy on SPaG.com with this week's task. They all managed to achieve more than 75% too. Well done!

Monday 11th May 2020

Good Morning Y6,

I hope that you had a lovely bank holiday weekend and managed to take part in some form of celebration or remembrance of VE Day.

As this week would have been our SATs week, I would like you to reflect on your strengths and achievements of this school year (of which you all have many) so far. I've been so proud of you and how far you've all come. Hopefully, if things continue to go in the right direction with the nation's efforts, we will be able to be in class safely for the end of Year 6 and discuss our personal achievements together.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Good Morning Y6,

It is VE day today. The following clip explains very clearly what VE day means:

Some of you may have decorated your houses or gardens for VE day today, or may be having a garden/street party to remember the events that led to Victory in Europe.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Morning Y6,

Still missing you loads!

I hope that you and your family are well and managing to spend some time in the sun. It's another gorgeous day today.

I have uploaded the answers for the Maths lesson if any of you want to mark your learning for this week. You can still find answers and tutorials for each activity on the White Rose Maths website: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/ too. As it's a bank holiday tomorrow, the Friday Maths challenge is a baking one!

Shout out to Alice, George M, Jack B, Hamish, Kieran, Gabriel and Sophia who I can see have been active on SPaG.com this week with the activities that were set.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Hope that you are keeping well and staying safe.

To tie in with the special VE Day anniversary, we would have been reading Goodnight Mister Tom in class this half term. I know that many of you have a copy of this so I would like you to start reading  at least a chapter a day from today. If you do not have a paperback copy, there is a link that has the whole book for you to access online:

Hi Y6,

Happy Star Wars Day - May the fourth be with you!

As stated in the letter that went out to your Parents/Carers on Friday, I'll now be uploading all English and Maths tasks for the week (every Monday) in the new folder above: Weekly Home Learning Tasks. You can complete them throughout the week when it suits you. It may be that some of you are still sticking to the timetable that you created and some of you have found other ways of working that better suit - either option is fine. Please also continue to log onto Bedrock Vocabulary, SPaG.com, Times Tables Rockstars, Spelling Beats and Bug Club twice a week. Spelling Beats have upgraded their site so you should be able to access all areas. If you have problems logging on, as I know some of you have, please email me and I will sort this for you. Mrs Thompson will continue to upload activities for all other areas of the curriculum which can also be accessed in our new 'Weekly Learning' folder, as well as in the subject folders within 'Y6 Home Learning Activities' so you can choose which tasks in each of the subjects you would like to complete.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Hi Y6,

We've been so pleased to see many of you accessing Purple Mash. Some of you have typed-up science investigations, designed vehicles, created quizzes and interactive stories. Well done Y6! There is a 'Graduation from Primary School' Mashcam which would be great if you could try.

The Harthill Primary Family Quiz expires on Sunday, so you still have time to get your family together to have a go at the 30 questions on Kahoot! - the code is 03660224.

Many of you are being creative with your learning whilst at home - we've seen some fantastic science experiments. Try and bring your learning to life whilst at home - measure lengths, perimeters, areas around the house and garden; make potions using careful measurements; write a set of instructions about something you've made at home.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Hi Y6,

I've been really pleased to see that many of you are continuing with your two lessons on Bedrock Vocabulary each week: Jack B, Miley, Harry, George P, Sophie, Archie, Hamish, Alice, Jess T and Oliver; having an expansive vocabulary will most certainly be beneficial for you in all that you do and help you to achieve great things in the future.

I do appreciate, however, that it can be difficult and challenging to access learning sometimes with many people in the house in addition to all of the changes that have happened. I'm continuing to read each day; I enjoy escaping into a fictional world for a period of time every day.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

I've also had the opportunity to speak to some of your parents or yourselves and it's been lovely to hear your voices; I am missing you so much.

Morning Y6,

I have added arithmetic questions to our Y6 'Home-Learning' section today in Maths. These are the questions that we would usually complete on a Monday. Remember to give yourself a timer of 15 minutes when completing the 18 questions. Once the 15 minutes is up, mark the questions using the answer sheet then identify your personal gaps. You can use websites such as BBC Bitesize and mathsisfun

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z826n39

https://www.mathsisfun.com/

to revisit and revise the question types that you identify as your gaps. You don't need to print out any of the sheets; you can write out all of the questions first and do your working out and answers on a piece of paper or in a book.

Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

Morning Y6,

I am missing you all so much!

It's so great, though, to see some of you active on Bedrock Vocabulary from yesterday. Well done to Sophia, Archie, Jess T, Alice, George M, Harry and Connor. Some of you were even active over the Easter holidays: Jess M, Jada and Jack B! You know I love reading and Bedrock vocabulary is a great way to continue to expand your vocabulary whilst you are not getting as much opportunity to talk with peers as you usually would do at school. I hope that you are all managing to keep in touch with one another through video calls and texts; it's so good to talk each day.

I'm going to put the link below in the English section of the Home Learning. It gives you access to lots of classics for free. I'm going to read Grimm's Fairy Tales. Why don't you read them too and tell me what you think or which one is your favourite? The great thing is that there are so many and they are relatively short too. You could even write your own version of a Grimm's Fairy Tale inspired by one of them (you may even see parallels, within some, to Disney films as many of Walt Disney's ideas for films were based on fairy tales already written).

Morning Y6,

We hope that you and your families are well and hope that you all stayed safe over the Easter break. This is the first day of what would have been Summer Term at school and we really are missing you lots.

As the lockdown has been extended for at least a further three weeks, White Rose Maths have now set up weekly blocks in their home learning section to cover all areas of Mathematics for the remaining 12 school weeks. Completing these activities will help you in your preparedness for school in September; we will add a week at a time every Monday. To access all of the lesson materials (including a video tutorial, lesson activities and answers), you can use the link to the White Rose website which will take you directly to the home learning section. You'll find this in our class page: Y6 Home Learning Activities > Y6 Maths Learning > Y6 Summer Term Weekly Maths Activities. We will upload the lesson activity sheets for you but it will be useful for you to watch the tutorials on their website before you complete the activities and, of course, have the answers once you've completed the questions.

Please continue to complete two Bedrock lessons every week as well as log onto SPaG.com, Spelling Beats, Bug Club and Times Table Rockstars regularly each week. I will also add more reading comprehensions and writing activities in the sections on our Home Learning Activities part of the class page.

It's been lovely to see what some of you have been up to on our class email; we'd like to hear from everyone in class! Don't forget, if you have anything you'd like to share with us or any questions about learning, please send to: Y6@harthill.jmat.org.uk and we will look forward to reading, seeing and replying.

This weekend - get helping out in the garden Y6!

Friday 27th March 2020

Hi Y6,

What a sunny week it has been!  And challenging. It has been so difficult not seeing friends at school and being on 'lockdown'. Please don't put any pressure on yourselves to do all the work sent home from school at once. Little and often, or stick to the timetable if this is easier for you. Use this time to enjoy the things we take for granted - time with family, nature and our homes.  A new class e-mail address is almost ready for us all to share our learning and experiences. Watch this space...

Today we would like a shout-out to Lucy and Alice for being busy on Spag.com, and to Jada, Jess M, Sophie, Archie, Alice, Jess T, Gabriel, Emily, Lucy, Grace and George P for completing Bedrock Vocabulary online lessons.

Keep busy this weekend and stay safe.
