Harthill Primary School

‘A school at the heart of its village’

This week in maths, we are going to be learning about 'Area'.  We will be investigating how to find the area of rectilinear shapes by counting squares.

Key vocabulary:

Area - the size of a surface

Rectilinear shape - a shape that has straight side and right angles

Watch the White Rose video which explains area and then complete the activity sheet below.  If you can't print the sheet off, that is not a problem.  You can just writing your answers in your book.  Question 1 asked for postit notes - if you don't have these you can just cut out square pieces of paper.

Spr4.4.1 - What is area?

As it is Monday, today we are going to do our spelling test.  Please fill in the gaps with your spellings that you have been practicing.

This week, we are going to finish off our narrative writing.  We are so impressed with the writing that we have read so far; you are trying so hard to include all the skills we have been practicing over the last 2 weeks.

Today, we are going to focus on the next P; the 'problem'.  Within this paragraph, I want you to include some speech.  Remember the rules for direct speech:

  • Inverted commas
  • Capital letter
  • What is being said
  • Punctuation
  • Inverted commas
  • Who is speaking - remember synonyms for said
  • New speaker, new line

"I am really enjoying your writing," informed Mrs Pridmore.

Watch my video to find out what happens next in my writing.

We cannot wait to read more of your writing.
