‘A school at the heart of its village’

Today, please start with handwriting;  forming the letters i and j. Watch Mrs. Thompson's  video below to explain this. To practise further you can have a go at writing the letters carefully on the lines in your exercise books.

Y1 Handwriting i and j

Your English activity today is based on our book '10 things we can do to help our world'.

Thinking about our book- which of the 10 things in the book do you do already and which do you need to do more of?

Take a look at the activity sheet and either print it out or just write under the headings in your purple exercise book.

English activity- What do we do already?

To start today we would like you to find 10 counters/ little bricks/ pieces of pasta (Something to count with). Start with all 10 in 1 group. Remove 1 so you have 9 in 1 pile and 1 in another pile. This is a calculation 1 + 9 = 10 and can also be 9 + 1 = 10. Like we did in Maths yesterday these are number bonds. Have a go with your grown up- they take a pile and you have to SAY the number which would make 10 then check by counting. Play a few times so you are getting confident with your number bonds.

Remember if 1 + 9 = 10 then 11 + 9 = 20 and similarly if 9 + 1 = 10 then 19 +1 = 20; see how many of these you know.

There are 2 activities below for you to have a look at. Either print or write the answers in your purple book. You could use real fruit for one of the activities if you like and take photos!

Number bonds game

Although I have only used 10 bricks to play the game; if your child separates them into 2 groups and works out the number bonds to 10 confidently; see if they can make the connections to 20.

If 4 + 6 =10 can they see that 14 + 6 = 20?
