Writing

Following on from last week, we will be planning and starting to write Yash's diary entry. Last week you learned how to write a diary and thought about vocabulary. You have also listened to four parts of the story now so should have plenty of content for it. You all know what you are capable of (Don't tell your parents any different!) so please plan for writing detailed paragraphs, remembering to give Yash's views and feelings, use conjunctions to elaborate and vary sentence openers. We know most of you love to stick in some brackets for parenthesis so go for it with those too!

Task 1 - Using the planning frame, plan for your diary entry. (If you do not have a printer, please have a look at the planning frame and write your plan in a similar way, remembering to group events together and include key sentence openers and other vocabulary on your plan.) Remember that you will be writing in first person, in character as Yash. Use the glossary to help select suitable vocabulary that Yash might use. This might be a good time to check in with Mrs Booth and Mrs Naylor. Send in a clear photo (or attach electronic copy) of your plan and we will happily email feedback before you begin writing your first paragraph.

Task 2 - Write your introduction paragraph. Think about sentence openers today. Can you vary them so that your writing flows for the reader? After writing this paragraph, take care to edit for spelling, sense and vocabulary choices.

A verb with the 'ing' suffix.

Feeling disheartened, I thought about .....

A verb with the 'ed' suffix

Determined to change Mr Goldlaw's mind, I continued up the mountain pondering what advice the sage might have given me to assist me with this mission.

An adverb

Silently, I thought for a moment on the sage's words.

Task 3 - Write point 1 of Yash's diary entry, continuing to focus on sentence openers. After writing this paragraph, take care to edit for spelling, sense and vocabulary choices.
