Sheffield Mosque and Cathedral

Birch at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Although a chilly start to the trip, Birch class showed their resilience and ventured around the park developing their sketching skills and drawing techniques. The children shared their favourite sculpture and artist with a great understanding of the emotions each sculpture captured. The afternoon was creative in the screen print workshop and the children completed some fantastic nature prints using leaves that they had collected on their morning walk. Birch class had a fabu

Chinese New Year
We've been celebrating Chinese New Year all week and doing various fun activities through out, such as taking part in a live assembly, making paper lanterns and doing exercises that are typical for children at school in China. Today Sycamore learned a new skill - Chinese calligraphy! We found out about the history of Chinese characters for writing and had a go writing our own using special calligraphy brushes and ink on rice paper. Though it was quite tricky (and messy) we al

A Real Royal Visit!
Birch class were extremely excited to be invited to experience Skills Street at Gulliver's Valley and to meet some of the Royal Family in person! The children were astonished that they could speak to their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, who asked them questions and joined in with their activities. A very big thank you to all the staff at Skills Street for inviting the children to learn about the jobs and skills available in their community. But, also fo

Make A Dream Day
The children all looked amazing dressed in outfits linked to what they would like their future career to be. We had a wide range of dreams from vets to footballers and pharmacists to pilots. We're going on a bear hunt
First day back in the icy wind and Birch Class went to the Jubilee Meadow in search for a missing Polar Bear. It was freezing on the top of the hill by the trees, but the view of the valley was incredible! The children huddled together to find out if they could get warm together and realised how cold it could be for a lonely polar bear.

Freezing fun for FS2
This week we have experiences sub zero temperatures and have noticed lots of changes to our weather and the outdoor environment. We found ice in our mud kitchen area and we decided to fill some different vessels overnight to see what would happen. We tried to submerge items into the water to freeze over night and found that some would float! We used tools to break the ice and moved things into the sun to thaw.

Celebrating Diwali
To celebrate Diwali we created bright and colourful rangoli patterns. We used paper plates and oil pastels to create Diya lamps. We used buttons to count out different amounts into colourful Rangoli patterns in our tough tray. Mrs Hamilton used her cooking skills and a great recipe to make coconut Burfi. Once it had cooled and set we all had a taste! We all enjoyed our afternoon celebrating Diwali. We finished our day by taking part in some Diwali dancing in the hall where we
